Visit Aviemore in Scotland

Aviemore is a town in the Highlands of Scotland, located south of Inverness. It is situated in the Grampian Mountains at the foot of Glen Coe, Scotland’s most famous glen.

Aviemore is a major tourist centre in the Highlands and it is widely regarded as one of the most popular skiing destinations in Britain. Nestled amongst pine trees just outside Aviemore is the Highland Wildlife Park. The park features many animals including brown bears, wolves, lynx and moose.

The town itself has many shops, bars and restaurants and is close to Loch Morlich which offers fishing, canoeing and swimming opportunities. The Cairngorms National Park has several visitor centres including Rothiemurchus (which contains an excellent visitor centre) and Glenmore Forest Park which offers hiking trails through beautiful scenery. The ski slopes at nearby Glenshee also provide great winter sports facilities and there are several mountain biking trails in the area.

There are plenty of hotels, B&Bs and self-catering apartments in Aviemore. Hotel options include The Lodge on Rothiemurchus Estate which has a spa, indoor pool and gym and offers free parking. For something more budget friendly there is also the Taralian Cottage Bed & Breakfast which offers views over Loch Morlich. The Hollies Retreats have some of the most beautiful Aviemore lodges which are a great option for families with children who enjoy the outdoors.

Where To Eat In Aviemore?

There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in Aviemore. If you are looking for something quick and casual then there is a Subway, Greggs, McDonalds and KFC all located within the town centre. For something more upmarket there is The Rothiemurchus Lodge which offers fine dining in their restaurant serving exquisite dishes such as pan-seared duck breast with chorizo risotto and garlic mushrooms.

Aviemore is a great place to visit and has so much to offer. It’s an ideal base for exploring the mountains and if you are lucky enough to be in Scotland when there is snow on the tops then it is even better as you can enjoy some great skiing or snowboarding at Cairngorm Mountain.
